Day-Wise Itinerary
Welcome to Leh, the Land of High Passes. Upon arrival at Leh Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. As Leh is situated at a high altitude of around 11,500 ft, the entire day is reserved for acclimatization. Rest well, stay hydrated, and avoid any strenuous activity to prepare your body for the journey ahead. Dinner and overnight stay in Leh.
After breakfast, proceed for a full-day local sightseeing tour. Visit Sangam Point to witness the stunning confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. Seek blessings at Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and experience the mysterious gravity phenomenon at Magnetic Hill. Explore Hall of Fame, a war memorial maintained by the Indian Army. Conclude the day at Shanti Stupa, known for its white dome and panoramic sunset views. Evening free for market visit, café hopping, and shopping. Dinner and overnight stay in Leh.
Post breakfast, drive towards Nubra Valley via Khardung La, one of the highest motorable roads in the world at 18,380 ft. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayan ranges during the drive. Upon arrival in Nubra, explore the sand dunes of Hunder and opt for a double-hump Bactrian camel ride or ATV ride (at personal expense). Check into your camp/hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Nubra.
After breakfast, visit Diskit Monastery, famous for its giant Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the valley. Continue the scenic drive towards Pangong Lake, located at 4,350 meters above sea level. The lake stretches from India to China and is known for its changing shades of blue. It gained worldwide fame after being featured in the Bollywood film 3 Idiots. Enjoy the sunset by the lake and, weather permitting, stargazing at night. Overnight stay near Pangong Lake.
Today you drive through the beautiful and remote Changthang Valley towards Hanle. The journey passes through small settlements like Chushul and Loma, offering untouched Himalayan landscapes and wildlife sightings. Hanle is home to the world’s highest astronomical observatory, the Indian Astronomical Observatory, situated at around 4,500 meters. Upon arrival, check into your hotel/homestay and relax. Dinner and overnight stay in Hanle.
After breakfast, proceed for an adventurous drive to Umling La, the world’s highest motorable pass at 19,024 ft. The ride offers dramatic barren landscapes and thrilling high-altitude driving experiences. Spend some time at the top enjoying the surreal panoramic views before returning to Hanle.
